Providing Support for local people in need

Established shortly after World War I, the Tile Hill and Westwood Charity initially funded a maternity home and nurses’ shelter at Lee Gordon House on Cromwell Lane.

We no longer have any responsibility for the day-to-day running of the building, and are focussed instead on supporting other local people in need..

About

Our area of operation extends 3.5 miles from Lee Gordon House, covering Burton
Green, Berkswell, parts of Balsall Common and Kenilworth as well as Canley, Tile Hill
and Westwood.

How We Help...

We provide support in two main ways:

1. Through individual grants and

2.  By working in partnership with other organisations.

We Provide Individual Grants

We invite applications from individuals (or families) who could benefit from once-only financial support for a specific, clearly-defined need.

Recent examples have included things like replacing a vital electrical appliance, or providing essential furniture.

Applications should be submitted using our official form, available here and
must be supported and endorsed by an appropriate sponsor who can verify the need for a grant.

Examples of suitable sponsors might be a medical professional, someone from social services or from a local school.
We Work in Partnership

Working collaboratively with other like-minded organisations helps us to reach and support those who may not necessarily qualify for one of our individual grants.

For example, we make regular donations to the Coventry Boot Fund and the David
Scott Foundation to help underpin the vital work they carry out in our area. We have
also provided financial support to local schools to help them improve outcomes for
disadvantaged pupils.

Other partnership activities include providing ‘welcome packs’ of essential personal
items for those arriving at local refuges or similar accommodation, and supporting
life skills classes (cooking, financial planning etc.) at one of our local community
centres.
